If you’re a backpacker, digital nomad, or just someone who’s into dorm-style living with a ton of amenities, I’ve got the perfect spot for you.
I recently stayed at one of Shkoder, Albania’s newest hostels and co-living spaces, and I honestly can’t recommend it enough. It’s called Hostel 90 Pods & Co-Working , and for the price you pay and what you get in return, it’s easily the nicest co-living space I’ve come across. The location is super convenient too—just a three-minute walk from the old town, where you’ve got loads of cafés, bars, and shops to keep you busy. You can grab a bite, hang out, or enjoy a drink in the evenings without having to go far at all.

Let’s dive into the setup. Hostel 90 Pods currently has 45 pods (though they’re looking to expand next season), and each one gives you way more privacy than your average dorm setup. Every pod is tucked between two thick walls, giving you a cozy, quiet space. Plus, each pod has a curtain, so you can shut the world out whenever you want. Inside, you’ve got two different lights, a couple of outlets, and some hooks to hang your stuff. The bedding is really comfy, with a soft blanket and pillow, and they throw in a free towel for the bathrooms too.
Even though the dorm is big and has a lot of beds, the pods are designed so well that you barely notice how many people are actually sharing the room. It’s super private and quiet, which is pretty rare in hostel dorms. You’ve also got lockers that are more than big enough for a 50L+ backpack, shoes, and other gear. There’s even a separate locker room, so your stuff is always secure and out of the way.
The bathrooms are massive and always clean, with plenty of showers and toilets to go around. There are mirrors, hairdryers, and all the essentials if you need them.
Right outside the dorm, there’s a small reception area with a few tables and chairs, and a little spot where you can buy drinks, including beer. The staff here are super friendly and helpful. Whether you need tips on things to do in the area or just want to book a tour, they’ve got you covered. They also rent out bikes for just €5 a day, which is perfect if you want to explore the city or head to the lake nearby. Honestly, for the price, it’s a steal.

But the real gem of this place is the third-floor common area. I’m not kidding when I say this is one of the best common areas I’ve ever seen in a hostel. The room is lined with huge windows, making it bright and welcoming all day long. There are plenty of spots to sit—tables, couches, even barstools. Whether you’re looking to get some work done, hang out with friends, or just chill with a book, you’ll find a cozy nook that suits your vibe.

The kitchen is right in the middle of the space, and it’s seriously impressive. It’s fully equipped with everything you need to cook proper meals—there are multiple burners, loads of counter space, and plenty of pots, pans, and other cooking tools. There’s also more than enough fridge and freezer space, so you can store your groceries without worrying about running out of room. Mornings are even better because the hostel provides free ingredients for you to cook your own breakfast. We’re talking eggs, fresh bread, jam, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese—you name it.
If you want a quiet space to chill or just take in the view, head up to the rooftop. It’s the perfect spot to unwind at the end of the day or catch a breath of fresh air while looking out over Shkoder. There are some chairs up there, making it a great spot to relax with a drink or just soak up the atmosphere.
What really makes Hostel 90 Pods stand out is how clean and well-maintained everything is. The bathrooms are spotless, the beds are clean, and the kitchen is always in good shape.
I’ve stayed at a lot of hostels that claim to be “co-living spaces,” but they usually fall short when it comes to things like kitchen space or privacy. Here, the kitchen is massive and fully equipped, and you’ve got enough room to cook a meal with friends or even bake if you’re feeling fancy. It’s a real co-living space in every sense, not just a place to crash.
And honestly, for €10 a night? It’s hard to beat. The owner is super friendly and always around to help out if you need anything. Plus, they’ve got a few volunteers who handle check-in, check-out, and keep the place running smoothly. It’s a social hostel, but it’s also laid-back enough for digital nomads to get their work done without any distractions.
Whether you’re staying for two nights or a month, you’ll feel at home here. It’s the perfect spot for digital nomads who need a comfortable, productive space but still want that social hostel vibe.
I’ve stayed at my fair share of hostels, and Hostel 90 Pods is easily at the top of my list. Finding a place that ticks all the boxes—great location, privacy, cleanliness, and good vibes—isn’t easy, but this place does it all and more. If you find yourself in Shkoder or anywhere in the Balkans, make sure to check it out. They’re only just getting started, and I can’t wait to see how much better it’ll be next season.
