Nestled in southern Thailand, on the tranquil island of Koh Lanta, lies one of the best snorkeling tours in the region—a full-day trip that’s nothing short of spectacular.

During my visit, I stayed four nights at AHA Hostel, one of the nicest hostels I’ve ever experienced. It’s modern, clean, and offers a social atmosphere perfect for solo travelers. I then spent another four nights at C Lanta Hostel, a beachfront gem with a pool overlooking the ocean—ideal for relaxing after a long day of exploring. Whether you’re a backpacker or prefer the comfort of a resort or an Airbnb, Koh Lanta has options for everyone.
While wandering around, I discovered a variety of activities, from cooking classes to fishing trips, but it was the snorkeling tour that caught my attention. The 2-Island Snorkeling Tour came highly recommended by locals and fellow travelers alike, and it did not disappoint. After three trips to Thailand, I can confidently say this was the best snorkeling experience I’ve had so far.
Booking the Tour
We booked with Pattesia Speed Boat Tours, which cost 1,000 Thai Baht per person (about $28 USD), plus a 400 Baht national park fee. For that price, we got round-trip transfers from our hostel, snorkel gear, lunch, drinking water, and a guide. The entire day was seamless and stress-free, from the moment we were picked up to the moment we were dropped off at our hostel. The ease of the day made it even more enjoyable—no need to worry about transportation, logistics, or equipment.
The Day Begins
Our day started bright and early at 8:00 AM, with a tuk-tuk picking us up from our hostel. The short 25-minute ride to the port gave us a glimpse of Koh Lanta’s scenic roads lined with lush greenery and quaint local villages. At the port, we checked in, paid the national park fees, grabbed a coffee, and boarded our speedboat.
The boat ride itself was breathtaking. The calm, turquoise waters reflected the morning sun, and as we approached our first destination, Koh Rok, we were greeted by towering limestone cliffs and pristine white sand beaches. These dramatic rock formations are a signature feature of southern Thailand and create a stunning backdrop for the crystal-clear waters.
Koh Rok: First Snorkeling Stop
Our first snorkeling spot at Koh Rok was nothing short of magical. The water here is so clear that you can see straight to the bottom, even from the boat. When we jumped in, we were immediately surrounded by schools of colorful fish, including clownfish darting between anemones, bright parrotfish, and sleek needlefish gliding near the surface.
The tranquility of this spot was unmatched. Unlike busier snorkeling destinations in Thailand, this area felt untouched, with only a handful of other boats nearby. After a short 10-minute ride, we arrived at our second dive spot, also near Koh Rok. This area was slightly shallower, making it perfect for observing coral formations up close. A Scenic Lunch on Koh Rok
After our second dive, we headed back to Koh Rok’s main island for a buffet-style lunch on the beach. The spread included rice, chicken, stir-fried vegetables, and fresh fruit. Drinks, including water and soda, were also provided to keep us hydrated.
The island itself felt like paradise. The sand was powdery white, and the shallow waters were a beautiful shade of turquoise. As we ate, we were visited by curious monitor lizards, which added a unique touch to the experience. After lunch, we had time to relax, soak up the sun, and swim in the calm, crystal-clear waters.
Koh Haa: The Grand Finale
The final stop of the tour was Koh Haa, a place that can only be described as a dream. Surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, this turquoise lagoon is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. The serenity of the location was incredible—it felt like we had entered a hidden paradise.
The snorkeling here was the highlight of the day. The coral reefs were vibrant and teeming with life, and we even spotted a few blacktip reef sharks gliding gracefully in the deeper waters. It felt surreal to swim alongside them, knowing they were harmless but such unique creatures of the ocean. The variety of fish was astounding—angelfish, groupers, wrasses, and more darted around the coral, creating an array of different colors.

After a peaceful 45 minutes at Koh Haa, we boarded the boat and began our journey back to Koh Lanta. As I reflected on the day, I realized just how special this tour was. From start to finish, it was flawlessly organized, offering three incredible snorkeling spots, stunning scenery, and a well-paced itinerary.

Unlike other tours in Thailand that can feel rushed and overcrowded, this experience allowed us to connect with nature without distractions.
